Outback S3 GPS Hemisphere Guidance Precision Agriculture
- With this new Outback S3â¢, Outback AutoMateâ¢, and the Outback eDriveTCâ¢, Hemisphere GPS has introduced the next generation of performance to its popular Outback Guidance⢠product line.
- The newest addition to the Outback family is the Outback S3, which combines the market proven Outback S2⢠and the Outback 360⢠with the latest development in Crescent GPS receiver technology. Featuring a high-resolution touch screen display, the Outback S3 provides clear easy to read job data and system status information in real time. The electronically integrated Outback Steering Guide⢠uses GPS data and the specific job details to display simple heading direction and provide guidance. Although the S3 is loaded with features and the latest technology, it is extremely easy to use. Simply turn the steering wheel to match the direction indicated by the Steering Guide.
- Outback eDriveTC GPS assisted steering system extends the functionality of the Outback S3 even more. Once engaged, the eDriveTC uses GPS technology to steer the tractor automatically. As a result it provides more uniform treatments, extends hours of operation, and requires less driver skills. Not only does eDriveTC steer more accurately than humanly possible, it now includes the Tilt Compensation (TC) feature. Tilt Compensation corrects for GPS position errors caused when driving on slopes in the terrain. This compensation is essential for precision applications.
- The Outback AutoMate is an automatic boom shutoff product that works directly with Outback Guidance products, such as the Outback S3. Featuring Raven's controller technology, the Outback AutoMate monitors and controls individual sprayer sections to minimize overlaps and skips. It offers up to seven section automatic control, manual section control, and user adjustable section overlap. Machine and rate controller specific interface kits will be available for a wide variety of vehicles and applications. Given the increased cost of herbicide and fertilizer, the Outback AutoMate drastically reduces waste and offers a quick return on investment.

Q. Does the Outback S3 support RTK signal?
A: Yes, the Outback S3 supports RTK. This utility can be changed with the âCorrection Typeâ function in the âGPS Setupâ screen of the Outback S3.
Q. My S3 status says âWarming Up' and it will not lock into DGPS. What could be my problem?
A: Check the antenna cable for any kinks, worn spots, breaks, or disconnects. Also, verify the correct type in the Setup Screen. If using a BaselineHD, make sure it is set to RTK. If not, then set it to SBAS.
Q. Can I use the Outback S3 as a receiver for other uses?
A: Yes. Outback S3 accommodates both NMEA 0183 serial and NMEA 2000 CAN communication protocols. Contact the factory at any time to get the latest compatibility list.
Q. How long does it take the Outback S3 to attain a usable signal?
A: It normally takes 1-3 minutes. The GPS signal will be acquired first and â3dâ appears on the GPS tab. DGPS correction will then be acquired which will then show â3Dâ on the GPS tab. For e-Dif, it takes 10 minutes to generate corrections. The vehicle can be in motion during this process. For RTK, it can take up to 15 minutes of consistent corrections to establish a RTK lock. The vehicle can be in motion during this process.
Q. Does the Outback S3 have memory?
A: The Outback S3 can record up to 30 hours of data for a single job. When the job is closed, the job data is automatically saved. Historical data for each job is collected and stored on the system. Data can also be imported, exported, or erased all together on the Job screen. Overall the Outback S3 can hold up to 730 hours of memory.

Q. How do I set Headland alerts?
A: On the Vehicle screen, set the Headlands Alert field to âOnâ. The headlands alert icon will flash in the shape of a red circle, and an audio alarm will sound anytime the current pass (swath width) crosses a previously applied area.
Headlands alert will sound when the antenna crosses a previously applied area.
Q. What electrical power do I need for the Outback S3?
A: A standard DC power supply between 9 and 16 volts is required. Current is less than 0.5 Amperes at 12 VDC. The unit wonât be damaged by reverse polarity (positive to negative), but it will not operate. However, if the power supply drops below a complete 12 volts, the console will be very susceptible to loss of GPS correction. Use the supplied power cord to connect directly to the battery. This type of installation is required for proper functionality of the S3.
